The iPod Attack

Well here it is, another Tuesday, and here I am am apolagizing for not posting on Monday.
Well my Epilipsy, is acting up, and my pain in my lower back was beyond describing.

I Sat here for a 1/2 hour to a hour trying to write and could not take it. Just before saving the draft my Homer Simson slippers brushed the plug to my G5 and I lost all that I had written. (my dumb ass didn't save anything to draft mid-writing). But enough about poor ol' me, On with the what's going on in the Mac World......

Apple yesterday published a new section to the support area of its Web site entitled "iPod 101," Which Apple boosts the support page as
"If you're a new iPod owner or simply need a refresher course on how to get the most out of your iPod, you've come to the right place. Welcome to iPod 101: Your guide to rockin' out, gettin' down, and boogieing with your iPod, iPod nano, iPod mini, or iPod shuffle."

Of coarse you will need more then this coarse to try and get this afully bad fake to work with iTunes.
But maybe later on Apple will add info about connecting and disconnecting your iPod from your XBox 360. Which according to MacFixIt allows "full playback of stored music (included AAC files) and the ability to charge some models. "

Of coarse Microsoft is not the only one's letting us into their software this xmas. RealNetworks has opened up their Rhapsody music service to Mac users, which you can download their software here. But me I don't wanna rent my music like I don't rent my DVD's. I buy what I like. So I'm not down to pay ($9.99 per month) Rhapsody Unlimited or ($14.99 per month) for Rhapsody To Go.

But then again Apple up's the anti with announcing deals with NBC, Sci Fi, and USA and already showing them on the iTunes music store.

The iTMS now offers more that 300 episodes from 16 different television shows.
NBC added Law & Order, the US version of The Office, Surface, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Late Night with Conan O'Brien. It is also including the vintage programs Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Dragnet, Adam-12, and season one of Knight Rider.

The Sci-Fi Channel added the critically acclaimed Battlestar Galactica mini series, along with every episode that has aired to date.

All of these shows for $1.99(US), only a few shows like the BattleStar Galacitica- Miniseries (for episodes) is sold as a set at $15.99 (US).

Of coarse there would be no positive without some bitching and whinnying. Man the way they go on you would think they where in these guys positions.

Sure, is the ad push mostly looking like iPod & iTunes? Yes, But more computer sales have risen as well.
Would I like to see a TV ad with the iPod connected to a Mac mini or the new iMac G5? hell ya. but come on, AppleXnet is saying
"the iPod frenzy has put business first and foremost and has infiltrated the core of the Mac community, using it as an easily-deployable market to influence the rest of the tech industry. However, this is slowly and surely pulling the Mac community apart as the individualistic "Think Different" nature that Apple once promoted is now turning into an Apple sponsored army of "One.""

When I read that I see the "1984 mac ad" with mac users being the ones sucked in to the windows users type of vaccum like zombies. And that is not true. Just because some writers don't see what's coming from Apple does not mean Apple is going down the wrong path in how they are promoting themselves.

What was your thought's when Apple was down to $11 a share? burn the share? or did you still have hope for this company to grow? well, if you had hope and brought 1,000 shares your a very happy man right now, for even when sock hit $72(US) you would have had a $61,000 profit, and I'm sure articles like yours or the one from Chrispher Hutsul- writer for the Toronto Star would not be wasting digital web space.

O.K. Game News
Last week patch 3369 came out for the PC, this weekend it came out for the Mac.

The patch offers a host of updates and fixes including render-to-texture support for OS X 10.4.3 users.

Patch 3369 contains several important fixes, but Mac users might be most excited about the availability of render-to-texture support (detailed shadows, motion blur, headlights, the DM-Morpheus scoreboard, etc). This requires Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later (but the game still runs on earlier releases as expected).

The package contains both the client and dedicated server. This will only patch the retail version (either the original UT2004 or the Editors' Choice Edition), and not the demo.
Some notes, first:
- Mac OS X finally has the GL extension we need for this! If you're using
10.4.3 or later, it'll work...the game will still run as before (i.e. -
without the cool effects) on older Mac OS releases...so the 3369 patch
and 10.4.3 will get you going.
...
- You MUST set "UseRenderTargets=True" in the "[OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]"
section of your UT2004.ini, or it WILL NOT WORK.
You want more detailed info check here.
